A CASTLE IN CHIANTI

The excursion begins with a mid-morning pick-up with private luxury car and English-speaking driver at your accommodation and transfer to the Chianti Valley on a scenic drive along the route that many consider to be Europe’s most beautiful - the Chiantigiana. Enjoy endless vistas of rolling hills clad in vines, seas of sunflowers and groves of silvery olive trees over which tower medieval Castles. Within an hour you are at the gates of the historic Castello di Verrazzano - birthplace of Giovanni da Verrazzano of bridge and straits fame. You will be escorted by a castle docent on a guided tour of the property’s luxurious gardens. See the wine cellars, the wine museum, the aging rooms for balsamic vinegar and prosciutto ham, the special drying rooms for the grapes used in making vin santo and even where the domesticated boars are raised.
Following the tour, you will enjoy a five-course paired tastings lunch in the company of a jovial and informative sommelier who provides a running commentary on both food and wine. The meal features all of the estate’s specialties from Super-Tuscan to Vin Santo to Grappa as well as the wild boar, pecorino cheese, prosciutto and even home-made biscotti!
