Early morning departure from your accommodations by de luxe private vehicle with English-speaking driver. If coming from Rome, travel along the route of the ancient Via Casilina past the Abbey of Montecassino (photo stop if desired) - site of the first Benedictine Abbey and of the most decisive battle of WWII in Italy. If traveling from the Amalfi Coast, proceed along the magnificent coastline to the back of the Bay of Salerno - site of major Allied amphibious landings in 1943. Circle the Bay of Naples with magnificent views of smoldering Vesuvius to Ancient Pompeii where you will be met by an expert archeological guide and accompanied on an extensive two-hour tour of the ruins. See the Forum, Basilicas and houses of wealthy Pompeians adorned with magnificent frescoes. Visit an ancient snack bar and the lupinarum (house of prostitution). See the plaster casts of the victims. Have free time for lunch near the ruins or in Pompeii town (as you prefer) before returning to your lodgings.
