This newly-opened inn is one of the most brilliant to appear on the Chianti panorama in years. Located at the heart of the sleepy little village of San Sano but close to the important touring centers of Gaiole and Radda, the Castellare has been adapted from a 12th century stone watch tower which later functioned as the mansion of the governor of this territory. An extremely sensitive restoration has carved just four luxury suites out of the original structure - each named for an historic figure associated with the life of the Chianti Valley.
Rooms are furnished with antique pieces and prints. Characteristic original architectural details - like beamed ceilings and marble sinks - have been artfully preserved and incorporated into the design scheme. On the ground floor is one of the most unique accommodation options in Italy - a suite entirely incorporated within giant ancient wine barrels!
The former kitchen now serves as breakfast room, bar and lounge and provides an excellent venue for enjoying a glass of the owner's own wine and for meeting other guests and the delightful hosts.
A unique feature of the property is the Wine Therapy Centre where the owner's intense love of wine and belief in its curative properties have resulted in a full-service spa and beauty product line based on essences derived exclusively from the grapes of the Chianti.

The delightful ensemble of characters - Ferdinando, owner and host, Davide, manager, and Tiziano, chef, are like a group of old friends who immediately welcome you into their circle.
Ferdinando also possesses several vineyards and, not content to simply make wine, he has created a line of beauty products using grape extracts and "most" created especially for him in the Antica Farmacia Fiorentina. He has also bottled a miraculous anti-oxidant substance from the same source and developed one of the most unique treatments imaginable: In the wine cellar of the house, in an ancient wooden barrel, a two-person hydro-massage tub has been constructed in which are administered "wine baths" for individuals or couples in search of a truly exceptional Chianti experience!
