Our Hotel Selection :: VILLA IL CASTELLINO
VILLA IL CASTELLINO
A Tuscan-Colors Style Selection
This whimsical farmhouse once belonged to and old abbey which is no longer extant.
It is set on the slope of a hill with an absolutely magnificent view over the plain of Lucca, the Apuan Alps and the Valley of the Serchio river. It is surrounded by a large terraced estate with beautiful age-old olive groves.
The house has been restored with great taste and great attention to detail, both inside and out. There is evidence of much respect for traditional local materials and recuperated original elements like old stones, terracotta tiles and wood beams.
The house is owned by a young antiques dealer who sourced most of the decorative elements among real antiques. For example, the carved marble sink in the kitchen is a rare piece and hundreds of years old. Unusual and valuable antique furniture and objects are spread throughout. Some have even been adapted to new decorating uses - such as the beautiful gilded mirror frame which has been recruited into service as a very original headboard. Every corner of this lovely house retains the traditional charming atmosphere of a rustic Tuscan home.
There is a beautiful swimming pool nicely set among olive trees and with wide panoramic views over the valley.
The house is quite secluded and is accessed by a private 600m gravelled drive.
