HOTEL VILLA BORDONI
A Tuscan-Colors Style Selection
This 16th century patrician villa nestles in the grey-green hills immediately above the town of Greve, capital of the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany. Long abandoned, it was discovered just a few years ago by Scottish restaurant entrepreneur and adoptive Florentine, David Gardner. Together with his wife Florentine architect Andre Benaim and veteran interior designer Riccardo Barthel, he lovingly and carefully restored it to its former glory and beyond making it a haven of luxury as well as a home for his young family.
Each of the ten rooms has its own unique decoration features; all boast Mediterranean-hued linens and original art. They are furnished with flair, originality, great attention to detail and premium amenities like CD- and DVD-players. In many rooms, high-tech mirror LCD TVs are encased in antique mirror frames in a courageous but ultimately successful ruse to introduce the convenience and comfort of modern living without upsetting the integrity of the Villa’s authentic style. With the same delicacy, minibars, safes, air-conditioning and internet connections have been unobtrusively installed in unusual pieces of antique furniture, each one the fruit of an exhaustive search. The bathrooms are equally attractive and vary in color and design, each with antique hand-painted Vietri tile chosen to complement the color-scheme of the guest room. The overall effect is chic yet with a high coziness and comfort factor.
The restaurant kitchen, which incorporates the villa's original wood burning oven, was custom-built in enameled cast-iron in the famous workshops of Molteni of France. The cuisine is an adventurous take on classical Tuscan fare brought delightfully up to date. Patrons frequently come from Florence simply to dine and the Villa frequently conducts cooking lessons in cooperation with Tuscan-Colors.
Each afternoon, guests are invited to a complimentary tea service which provides a delightful occasion to interact with fellow guests and, frequently, your charming hosts.
The grounds are spectacularly landscaped and feature a gorgeous swimming pool and outdoor fitness pavillion.
Villa Bordoni is now proud to be among Condé Nast Traveller's "60 Best New Hotels in the World".
